The Scranton city council approved a change in the zoning of the former Landus office on Main St during their Dec. 12 meeting. With the second and third reading of the zoning agreement waived, the switch of the zoning from commercial to residential took effect immediately.
Dawn Rudolph highlighted the many activities taking place in the Scranton Community Center. Pickleball is a growing sport with groups from Jefferson, Glidden and Carroll using the facility up to five times per week. Other folks enjoy walking inside the gym. The gym entrance is almost complete with the installation of the sink and toilet yet to occur. The generator project has begun.
A Community Center board member is stepping down at the end of the month but someone is interested in taking the position with plans to attend the next meeting. The board is working to get a new batting and pitching cage with a net that can also be used for golf. Rudolph shared that the stairway to the second floor is needing the roof replaced before any renovations can be done to the second floor.
The council unanimously approved a $5,000 donation to the Hwy 25 Corridor project. The money will be used to help fund improvements to residential properties in Scranton.
A building permit for the installation of solar for a home in Scranton was tabled until January so more information regarding requirements and regulations can be determined.
Tammy Ross reported on the library activities. The Christmas open house was successful with 89 people attending. The AED has arrived and she has completed a class on its operation. It needs to be mounted on a wall.
Numerous ash trees have been removed. There are still a few more trees to cut down in the park, according to the report by Chad Kirk. The snow fence has been erected; the loaders are serviced and the sander is ready for inclement winter weather.
Councilman Gale Zellweger pointed out some abatements that need attention.
